Measure a drawing
Set a page scale, then save distances, lengths, and areas on the drawing.
Measurements are saved as marks so others can check them against the same page scale.
Set a page scale, save a distance, a length and an area, then recalibrate. Recorded on a sample drawing.
Confirm a page scale
- Open the drawing page and choose Calibrate page.
- Mark the two ends of a dimension with a known real distance.
- Enter that distance and its units, then confirm.
For a PDF at its original paper size, choose a Drawing scale preset such as 1:100 or 1:50 instead of marking endpoints. For another ratio, choose Custom 1:N, enter the denominator, and choose Apply scale. Use a known distance for image drawings and resized scans.
A project member with markup access must set the scale. Share recipients with markup access can measure after calibration, but cannot replace it.
One scale covers the whole page. Do not use it for details drawn at different scales. Check the reference dimension before relying on a measurement.
Measuring
Choose a tool:
| Tool | What to place |
|---|---|
| Distance | Two endpoints |
| Length | A series of points along an open route |
| Area | A closed shape without crossing edges |
Place the points, check the displayed value, and save. You can edit the shape or change display units afterwards. Undo and redo work as they do for other marks.
Recalibration
Open Page scale from the drawing toolbar or a selected measurement to change the ratio. Choosing a preset applies it immediately; custom ratios use Apply scale. The controls show how many saved measurements will change. Lengths and areas update on the drawing without reloading the page, and keep their display units. Changing from 1:100 to 1:50 halves lengths and quarters areas.
To use a new known distance, choose Recalibrate page, mark the reference, and confirm the change. Changing either kind of scale clears measurement undo history.
Scale and new revisions
A new drawing revision needs its own calibration. Before carrying measurements forward, calibrate the target page. Copied measurements use its scale.
Superseded drawing revisions are read-only. You can inspect their saved measurements.
