Manage drawing revisions

Review a new drawing before making it current, while keeping its history.

Revision tools apply to drawings. Each revision keeps its own file, comments, and marks.

Revision status

  • Current is the revision shown in the library and ordinary search.
  • Pending review is a candidate being checked.
  • Superseded is an older, read-only revision that remains accessible.

Upload a new revision from the existing drawing's revision history. Uploading a candidate leaves the current drawing in use until you choose to replace it. Uploading a separate file with the same drawing number does not automatically join its history.

Comparing two revisions

  1. Open the drawing and select another revision from its history.
  2. Choose Side by side, Overlay, or Difference.
  3. Compare the relevant pages and leave comments on the candidate.

Pages match by page number. Overlay and difference need compatible page sizes and available previews. A visible difference can come from rendering as well as a design change, so check the drawing itself.

Promoting a revision

Once the candidate has finished processing and you have checked it, make it current and confirm. You need permission to upload documents or manage the project.

If another person changed the current revision while you were reviewing, refresh and check again.

Existing comments, marks, and record links stay with their original revision. An RFI raised against Rev C still refers to Rev C after Rev D becomes current.

Carrying relationships forward

Choose what comes forward while reviewing a candidate:

  1. Browse the markup thumbnails below the drawings. Each crop shows a marked area on the current revision. Select a thumbnail to enlarge it, then use Back to return to the comparison.
  2. Use the checkboxes to choose which marks come forward. Previewing a mark does not change its selection. Collapse the strip for more drawing space, or scroll it to see more marks.
  3. Check record and task links in the review panel. Tags come forward automatically. Available marks and links are selected by default; untick anything that should stay on the current revision.
  4. Make the candidate current and confirm to apply the selection together with the revision change.

Blocked marks show why they cannot be copied. Marks already on the candidate remain available to preview without creating another copy. The separate carry-forward action is also available for explicit selections outside revision review.

Marks map to the same-numbered page. Measurements require a calibrated target page. Historical links and comments remain available on the original revision.

Delete a revision

You need permission to upload documents or manage the project.

  1. Open the drawing's Version history.
  2. Open the action menu for an earlier, in-review, or cancelled revision.
  3. Choose Delete revision, check the revision label, and confirm.

To delete the current revision, first make another revision current. You cannot delete the only current revision.

Deleted revisions disappear from revision history and cannot be opened or shared. Breeks retains their stored history and existing references. Those references keep pointing to the deleted revision.
